El Sombrero Family Mexican
About This Spot
El Sombrero Family Mexican feels like a cherished hidden gem tucked away in the heart of Lakebay. From the moment you step inside, the contrast between the unassuming exterior and the lively, colorful interior invites a sense of discovery. The atmosphere pulses with warmth and familiarity—families sharing stories, friends laughing over perfectly chilled margaritas, and the hum of conversation blending seamlessly with the soft rhythm of Mexican melodies.
The pace here is unhurried and comfortable, encouraging guests to savor the moments as much as the meals. It’s the kind of place where the staff greets you like an old friend, and even a quick visit feels like a small celebration of community and tradition. The festive touches within—brightly painted walls, authentic décor, and cheerful lighting—draw you into a space grounded in joy and genuine hospitality.
Dining at El Sombrero is best experienced with a spirit of shared enjoyment, where plates arrive brimming with home-style dishes that feel heartfelt rather than flashy. The smoky depths of carnitas, the tender warmth of street tacos, or the bright, tangy notes carried in a blood orange margarita reveal stories of flavorful craftsmanship. There’s a gentle sincerity in the food here—each bite a small reflection of careful preparation, from the crispy, cinnamon-coated churros to sizzling chicken fajitas sizzling on cast iron.
This is a neighborhood spot that has quietly earned its place in locals’ routines and travelers’ itineraries alike. Whether it’s a casual stop for a weekend meal or a gathering point for sharing celebration, El Sombrero Family Mexican offers a moment of refuge, reminding us that food is often best enjoyed in spaces that feel like a second home.

Don’t let the location fool you! The food was really good, the staff was incredibly friendly and the inside was very festive and well done as well, not what you’d expect from the outside. I definitely recommend this if your in the area.

Hubby had barria tacos and I had el cholo (new on the menu). Both were delicious! We'll order again.

I really enjoy eating here when I visit KP. I love the chicken fajitas and burritos. I find the wait staff friendly and efficient. I bring my family and friends here as often as I can.

This place hits the top of a basic Mexican restaurant in all the right ways. Flavorful as in balanced fat and salt for the pollo a la crema from a broth standpoint, not a seasoning standpoint. Do keep in mind that the food here is bland, just executed decent. The ingredients were all prepared well in the chimichanga, and chicken taquitos. the margaritas were tasty and the mixed drink wasn't a bad pour either. When it comes to Mexican restaurants, they hit a cap fast on quality unless they're a steak house or are going for authentic. This place isn't either of those, and sure, it could use more seasoning, but as a nicely decorated and easily approachable place, it's hard but to love this place

Great little place for taco Tuesday. Instead of the Cadillac margarita, I would recommend a normal + an extra shot (if you like the taste of tequila as I do). Had these soaked tacos with carnitas and they were very tasty (forgot the name)..
